Boyfriend. Girlfriend. Skinny. Trouser. Which one is right for you? Use our fit guide to find the perfect pair.

Boot cut

Silhouette: Starts out straight, narrows slightly at the knee, gently flaring in the lower leg

Rise: Low to mid, sometimes higher in the back to prevent low riding

Leg opening: Between 17" and 20," traditionally wide enough to go over cowboy boots

Length: Just below the ankle, longer with heels

Boyfriend

Silhouette: Slouchy and relaxed in the hips, bum and thighs, meant to look as if you borrowed them from your boyfriend

Rise: Mid

Leg opening: Between 12" and  14"

Length: Ankle or above. Sometimes loosely rolled at the cuff

Crop Flare

Silhouette: Similar to Flare jeans, these jeans widen below the knee, but they're shorter than classic flares. 

Rise: Mid to high

Leg opening: Between 16" and 19"

Length: From mid-calf to just above the ankle

Curved

Silhouette:  Also known as a wedge, bubble, barrel or balloon fit, these jeans curve gently outward from the hip, tapering in near the ankle to create a curved silhouette.

Rise: Mid to high

Leg Opening: Usually tapered, between 12" and 14"

Length: Varies from cropped to below the ankle. Sometimes loosely rolled.

Popular style: Part Two Hela Jeans

Dad

Silhouette: Similar to Mom jeans, but baggier in the thighs. Usually tapered near the ankle

Rise: High 

Leg Opening: Usually tapered, between 14" to 16"

Length: Varies from cropped to below the ankle. Sometimes loosely rolled

Flare

Silhouette: Fitted up top, then dramatically flaring outward below the knee

Rise: Low to mid

Leg opening: 18" or more

Length: Just below the ankle, unless they're Crop flares

Girlfriend

Silhouette: Slouchy around the hips and thighs like a Boyfriend jean, but a bit less so

Rise: Mid

Leg opening: Between 14" and 16"

Length: At the ankle. Sometimes rolled at the cuff.

Popular style: Jag Jeans Carter Girlfriends

Jogger

Silhouette: Borrowed from the active wear section of your closet, this style is usually held up with elastic or drawstring at the waist. The legs are loose, with elastic cuff at the ankle

Rise: Low to high

Leg opening: Cuffed with elastic to fit the ankle

Length: Above the ankle

Mom

Silhouette: Hugs the smallest part of the waist and fits the bum and hips snugly, tapering in the lower leg

Rise: High

Leg opening: Usually tapered, between 14" and 16"

Length: At or just above the ankle

Skinny

Silhouette: Fitted in the bum and thigh, becoming ever-narrower from hip to ankle. Often made of stretchy denim

Rise: Mid to high

Leg opening: Fitted to the ankle, usually 12" to 13"

Length: At the ankle

Straight

Silhouette: A little more relaxed than skinny jeans, this style is straight from the hip all the way down to the ankle

Rise: Mid to high

Leg opening: Between 14" and 16"

Length: Varies from mid-calf to just below the ankle

Straight Crop

Silhouette: Similar to a Straight leg jean, but with a shorter length

Rise: Mid to high

Leg opening: Between 14 and 16"

Length: From mid-calf to just above the ankle

Popular style: Kut From The Kloth Reese Straight

Trouser

Silhouette: Borrowed from the business section of your closet, these jeans hug the bum and hips with straight, slim or flared legs. They usually have slash pockets at the side and slit pockets in the back

Rise: Low to high

Leg opening: Varies from fitted to flared, 12" or more

Length: Just below the ankle, longer with heels. Can be rolled for a cropped look
